Volunteer & Stewardship Opportunities

  • River Cleanups:

Grab your gloves or join us for a river bank cleanup! We have events scheduled in Boise, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and Lochosa Fish Creek. We are also organizing a clean-up along the North Fork of the Payette River, more details coming soon.

  • Adopt-a-Greenbelt (Boise) from 6-8pm

  • Urban River Stewardship Program:

If you have a passion for protecting the Boise River and want to actively contribute to safeguarding this beautiful urban river, then this stewardship program is for you!

When you become a Boise Urban River Steward, you will embark on a self-guided stewardship journey dedicated to ensuring the cleanliness and well-being of the Boise River. As an Urban River Steward you will be required to actively participate in three activities that contribute to the overall health of the Boise River watershed. These activities include riverbank clean-ups, conducting water quality tests, and spreading awareness about the URS program at local events.

Stewards are required to attend a mandatory, in-person training on April 10th from 5:30-7:30PM at Roots Zero Waste Market in Garden City. This training will equip you with the essential knowledge and tools needed to successfully complete this program. The training will also provide a deep dive into the history of the Boise River, its importance to our local community, and offer you insights about current issues affecting its watershed.

If you are interested in joining our program please fill out this application found HERE and if you have any question please send an email to our volunteer coordinator at lindsey@idahorivers.org

Please stay tuned for our Twin Falls Urban River Stewardship program starting this summer!

  • Sawtooth Salmon Stewardship Program:

Join this program and you will embark on a self-guided stewardship journey dedicated to safeguarding the Salmon River in the Sawtooth Recreational Area (SNRA). As a Sawtooth Salmon Steward, your role involves actively participating in one riverbank clean-up and educating SNRA visitors about the crucial habitat this river system provides for spawning salmon.

Stewards must attend a mandatory, in-person training in Summer 2024. This training will equip you with the necessary knowledge and tools needed to successfully complete the stewardship program and gives you an opportunity to connect with like-minded river and conservation enthusiasts.

This program is offered through a partnership with the SNRA US Forest service.

Applications for the Sawtooth Salmon Stewardship Program will be opening soon! If you are interested in joining our program please email lindsey@idahorivers.org

  • Educational & Community Outreach events

Share your love for Idaho’s rivers by joining IRU for a community outreach event! We will provide you with the information and materials you need to engage in meaningful discussions with our local community about the current state of our rivers, IRU’s campaigns, and upcoming programs!

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us run a table or wear our Lonesome Larry costume for photo-ops at the outreach events listed below!

If you are interested helping out at one of our these events, please email lindsey@idahorivers.org
