Inclusive Idaho Recap: Helping everyone enjoy our rivers

Lots of laughter and squeals traveled over the Riverside pond as the students were handed worms to bait their hooks! Idaho Rivers United has teamed up with Inclusive Idaho and LEAP to create inclusive outdoor activities, helping individuals have opportunity and access to outdoor recreation. Our groups came together to positively impact our community and provide opportunities for underrepresented groups to learn a new outdoor activity.

Our first activity was hosting a fishing class for students who had never fished before. With equipment and bait provided, volunteers from each organization and local schools showed the intrigued group fishing basics. The fish proved to be a bit cunning, with only one caught for the morning session; however, there was wildlife viewing and great conversations as we enjoyed our time in nature.

This month we kicked off Stand-Up Paddleboard sessions at Quinn’s Pond, with gear and instruction provided by Idaho River Sports. These bi-monthly sessions offer an opportunity for underrepresented groups to experience on-the-water sessions with professional instructors, extra assistance on the water, and an accepting environment for all. We are excited to provide these safe, accessible, and inclusive outdoor recreation experiences and help our community increasingly become a place where everyone has access to the outdoors.
